About the position
Duties
The Maintenance Crew Supervisor leads and develops a professional team of 10 or more maintenance employees responsible for the upkeep of campgrounds, day-use areas, parking lots, roads, bridges, and other visitor facilities that support high-quality experiences in Jasper National Park. This is a working supervisor position that requires hands-on participation in field work when needed.
The Supervisor plans, assigns, and oversees daily operational activities; ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Parks Canada standards; and provides coaching, mentoring, and performance oversight to crew members. The role requires close coordination with trades, technical services, and other operational teams. Strong leadership, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to work year-round in outdoor environments are essential.

The Jasper Field Unit is comprised of Jasper National Park and Fort St. James National Historic Site (NHS), with staff located in Jasper, Alberta and Fort St. James, British Columbia. The Field Unit Superintendent is located in Jasper. In addition to Fort St. James NHS, the Field Unit is also responsible for five other national historic sites located within Jasper National Park: The Jasper Park Information Centre NHS, Athabasca Pass NHS, Yellowhead Pass NHS, Jasper House NHS and the Maligne Lake Chalet and Guest House NHS.
Due to the location of Parks Canada’s heritage places, we work with a wide diversity of Indigenous peoples across the country. Of the lands and waters in our care, more than three quarters of these are managed with the support of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment.
Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, and by various means of transportation.
Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays.
Willingness to take mandatory training related to the job as required, including but not limited to OHS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and WHMIS.
Willingness to undergo pre-placement and periodic medical evaluations
Willingness to work towards gaining experience and or certifications in water/wastewater systems.
Willingness to work independently in a remote location.

Acceptable experience is defined as a minimum of 36–60 months
EX1: Experience in general maintenance activities related to facilities, campgrounds, roads, bridges, or similar infrastructure.
EX2: Experience in general grounds maintenance or cleaning (e.g., trails, landscaping, grounds, facilities).
EX3: Experience operating and maintaining light equipment such as mini excavators, skid steers, excavators, mowers, sweepers, salt spreaders, tractors, or similar equipment.
EX4: Supervisory experience leading 10 or more individuals in maintenance and/or construction projects.
EX5: Experience in basic carpentry, general contracting, or construction.
EX6: Experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, OneNote, and PDF tools for scheduling, reporting, and record keeping.
