About Pathways Abilities Society
Pathways Abilities Society is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that has been providing services and support to individuals with diverse abilities throughout the Central Okanagan since 1953. Core services are funded by Community Living BC (CLBC). Our mission is to assist people with diverse abilities to reach their individual goals and to participate and contribute as equal members of the community.
Our Integrated Career Opportunities (ICO) offers individuals with diverse abilities opportunities for paid work by providing employment supports to find, secure and maintain a job. Our services include assessments, customization, education, planning, skill development, support, on-site training, job coaching, development of natural supports, monitoring, follow up, and the retention required to find and maintain employment.
Our social ventures provide employment opportunities for individuals who have barriers to employment and/or require a work experience. Our social-venture initiatives include running a quality used bike shop (BikeWays), and operating recycling and bottle-sorting programs.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the Manager of Career Opportunities and Social Ventures is a full-time, salaried position leading a team of unionized employees (vocational counsellors), individuals served, and volunteers. This is an on-site position (downtown Kelowna) with frequent travel in and around the Central Okanagan.
In this leadership role, you will oversee Pathways’ career services and employment-focussed social ventures and help build the business. The role ensures quality, compliant, person-centred services align with Pathways’ mission, vision, values, our collective agreement, and best practices in supported and customized employment.
Key Responsibilities
Management & Leadership
Lead and manage the assigned employment services area
Supervise, coach, motivate, and support vocational counsellors, staff, and volunteers
Engage in recruiting, hiring, scheduling, performance management, discipline, and labour relations in alignment with the Community Living Services Collective Agreement and the BC Employment Standards Act
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, organizational planning, and services development
Adhere to developing SMART goals
Career Opportunities & Social Ventures
Oversee the day-to-day operations of Integrated Career Opportunities (ICO), BikeWays, and our recycling and bottle-sorting programs
Promote, support, and secure community-based employment opportunities
Ensure Vocational Counsellors:
Conduct person-centered vocational assessments and discovery
Develop and implement individualized vocational plans with clear goals and fade-out strategies to natural supports
Integrate transportation and travel planning into employment planning
Support the development and maintenance of employer and community partnerships
Administrative & Compliance
Ensure accurate and confidential maintenance of all employees, volunteers, and business records
Adhere to:

WHMIS
B.C. Human Rights Code
CLBC contracts and reporting requirements
Follow and support agency policies, procedures, and documentation systems (including ShareVision)
Safeguard the property of the Society and the individuals we support
Qualifications – Education, Training & Experience
Education
Degree or Diploma in business administration, commerce, labour relations, marketing, or equivalent
Training
Specific skills training in employee onboarding, mentorship, and continuous development to enhance employee performance and organizational success
Experience
Minimum 5-7 years in a related field, including:
2 years’ direct experience supporting adults with diverse abilities
5 years’ experience managing employees in a unionized, human-services setting
Demonstrated management experience in employee engagement and growth, including supervision, planning, organizing, motivating, and coaching
Background in applying entrepreneurial strategies to workforce development and social ventures
Knowledge of:
Supported and Customized Employment
BC Employment Standards and Regulations
WorkSafeBC and WHMIS
Previous experience in workforce development and social ventures an asset
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
Employment Requirements
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and satisfactory driver’s abstract
Daily use of a safe personal vehicle with business-use insurance
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Valid First Aid Certificate
Valid Food Safe Certificate
Ability to adapt to flexible hours and respond to emergencies
Capacity to meet the physical, psychological, and organizational demands of a management role
Compensation
Salary: $75,000 - $80,000 per annum (based on a 35-hour week)
Benefits: Comprehensive employer-paid benefits program
Pension: Enrolment in BC’s Municipal Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan)
Vacation: 3 weeks
