About the position
Reporting to the Director, Communications and Career Development, the Manager, Communications & Youth Engagement is responsible for managing MiHR’s youth focused initiatives to attract, recruit and retain the next generation of Canada’s mining workers. As part of the Communications and Career Development Team, the Manager also supports the communications function across the organization by participating in communications activities to build awareness of the Council and uptake of its programs.
Responsibilities
Manage the Mining Needs You Career Ambassador Program, ensuring program uptake and Ambassador engagement through program promotion, ambassador recruitment and training, speaking engagement coordination and ensuring all program materials and webpages are up to date.
Manage the I Chose Mining. Mining Chose Me. Scholarship Program, including program promotion and liaising with the Scholarship Selection Committee to review applicants and select recipients.
Manage other Mining Needs You programs as required, including uptake of educational curriculum.
Support other Mining Needs You programs and initiatives as required, including the Mining Industry Experience (MiEX) Program, messaging, collateral, social media, advertising, events and media relations.
Liaise with an external design/advertising agency on Mining Needs You deliverables.
Research stakeholders and prospects for programs and events to expand MiHR’s network related to youth initiatives.
Assist the Director, Communications and Career Development, with youth-related media relations activities, developing news articles, reports, marketing materials, other communications copy as required and monitoring MiHR media hits.
Work collaboratively with the Director, Communications and Career Development, to support development and implementation of youth-related strategies, campaigns and business development activities.
Conduct collateral quality assurance: proofreading, fact checking and editing web copy reports, articles, newsletters and other promotional material.
Other duties as required.
Education/Experience
University degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or equivalent.
3-5 years of experience working in communications.
Strong written, verbal, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
Experience in effectively leading projects and programs, multiple stakeholders and consultants.
Strong administrative, data management, project tracking, evaluation and quality assurance skills.
Ability to shift between rotating priorities based on program deliverables and project timelines.
Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment required.
Ability to work in English, French considered an asset.
Schedule
7.5 hour work day
Monday-Friday
Ability to participate in a hybrid working model with a blend of time working in office and working from home.
