Job Description

The occupant of this position will report to the Director, Strategic Policy and Legislation Branch and supervise a small team.

Your key accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:
Lead and deliver legislative reform and policy projects in relation to portfolio and non-portfolio legislation by providing expertise in the development of legislation products such as Cabinet submissions (including financial considerations), oversee and draft instructions for bills/regulations, explanatory notes, human rights statements of compatibility and other supporting documentation for

Cabinet/Parliamentary processes.

Manage a small team, including the professional development, performance, and well-being of team members and comply with relevant human resources responsibilities, delegated authority and organisational policies, procedures and legislative framework.
Represent the QPS by attending networks, forums and a range of inter and intra governmental working groups to assist in the development of programs, projects and policies that impact policing operations.
Provide expert advice at an enterprise level on a range of policy and strategic issues by identifying emerging risks and challenges, and propose innovative strategies and solutions that support quality business outcomes.
Build expertise and support development within the team to prepare complex high-level documents that may contain sensitive or confidential information, such as Cabinet and Ministerial submissions, briefing notes and departmental correspondence.
Lead a team in undertaking high-level research and critical analysis, including interpreting and analysing legislation and assist in the development and delivery of presentations and reports to senior executives and a range of diverse audiences.
Lead a team to achieve desired outcomes while fostering strong internal and external relationships, by cultivating key partnerships and networks to effectively negotiate and influence organisational objectives.

Role Requirements

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience

There are no mandatory requirements for this role however, experience and/or qualifications in policing, criminology, law or a similar criminal justice related field will be considered favourably.
