Day to Day
Our goal is to enable personalized experiences by deeply understanding job seekers, jobs, and employers. The Metadata & Taxonomy team is accountable for improving structured data understanding of job seekers and jobs. This involves manually curated taxonomies, rule-based systems, machine learning models, APIs, UI components, and administrative tools. The Taxonomy Data team within this group focuses on creating a high quality environment for structured data generation and downstream usage. Our role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality machine learning models, tools, pipelines, and infrastructure. We collaborate with the taxonomy operations team to expand structured data to global markets, offering full assistance for tailored product experiences that utilize metadata throughout Indeed's markets.
As a Software Engineering Manager at Indeed, you'll direct a team developing tools, algorithms, and pipelines for taxonomy management. This enhances structured data generation for job understanding. You'll support and oversee the team, collaborating across functions to create customized product experiences using metadata. You value practical leadership, unblocking your team and granting self government.You excel in swift learning, pragmatic tech choices, and empowering your team. Your leadership blends technical engagement with guidance.
Responsibilities
Drive the roadmap for the Taxonomy data team
Define a dynamic long-term strategy for the team by working with other engineering collaborators across the cross functional teams, as well as Product, UX and Program Management functions
Mentor and enable both recent new team members and experienced senior engineers
Provide assistance and guidance that enables the team to self-organize and to achieve sustained high velocity and predictability
Raise the technical bar of the team by setting clear priorities, processes
Demonstrate an excitement for addressing intricate problems in the natural language processing world
Align and contribute to the team and the company's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion goals
Skills/Competencies
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field
5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, or other management role
Experience delivering large scale projects that span multiple teams while building and cultivating solid engineering practices and processes
Experience in web development technologies such as Java, Python, Typescript, React, Spring, gRPC, REST
Experience in Machine Learning, like Neural Network, Tensorflow, Kubeflow
Excellent verbal and written communication; effective in explaining intricate technical matters to both technical and non-technical audiences
