Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and a member in good standing of the New York Bar
15+ years legal experience in litigation, with focus on New York Labor Law and complex commercial litigation
5+ years management experience relative to commercial insurance defense
Strong knowledge of New York Labor Law and procedure, as well as CPLR and Administrative Law requirements
Excellent jury trial experience in state and federal courts
Proficiency in Microsoft products
Proficiency in time management
Legal case management software experience
Excellent customer service, writing and oral communication skills
Must have valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing
Travel requirements: approximately 50%

Responsibilities
The Managing Attorney will be responsible for overseeing a team of attorneys defending the carrier's insureds under New York Labor Law, general/premises liability and vehicle liability cases, and will develop, implement and maintain all best practices, protocols, processes and performance standards to ensure best in class legal services of the staff counsel office in representing insureds and containing overall claims expense
Leads, coaches and develops all attorneys within the Elmsford or Latham offices
Mentors/provides training to attorneys when needed
Influences development and implements policies/procedures and performance enforcement among staff counsel office personnel
Oversees all litigated cases handled by attorneys within the office
Reviews and edits substantive documents drafted by the attorneys as appropriate
Analyzes legal office procedures and policies for efficiency and effectiveness and proposes improvements when warranted, ensuring effective implementation of those changes
Communicates and supports corporate policies and strategies to staff counsel employees and addresses any concerns regarding these policies or strategies
Ensures appropriate conflict checking of all matters at intake and throughout the course of litigation
Ultimate responsibility for the ethical conduct of all office personnel and ensuring that all attorneys are licensed and in good standing
Participates in committee meetings, roundtables, and conferences within the assigned office(s) and with the claims department at large
Responds to Claim Department requests
Provides effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims professionals
Participates in special projects or task force initiatives as requested
Ensures proper usage of the legal case management software
Chairs monthly meetings with attorneys
Co-chairs monthly staff meetings with Legal Operations Manager
Reports directly to Regional Director

A highly regarded insurance carrier seeks an experienced Managing Attorney to join their legal department in either Elmsford or Latham, NY. The position is hybrid: three days in the office; two days remote. The base salary is $152K-$267K with an annual 20% target bonus, long-term incentive and competitive benefits.

Primary Duties:
