Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

Hei Kaiārahi Āheitanga Matua, māu e tārai, e ārahi hoki te āheitanga Māori o te hinonga hei whakaahei i te ārahitanga whai tikanga, i te ahurea hinonga hoki, me te mahi a te ohu ahumahi.

Māu e whakarato tohutohu rautaki matua, tiakitanga hoki kia whakatūngia ai te āheitanga Māori ki roto i ō mātou tāngata, tikanga whakahaere hoki o te hinonga ki te whakatutuki i ō Te Tai Ōhanga whakaarotau me te hāpai kawenga mō Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Mā tē tūranga koe e:

Ārahi, e tiaki hoki tā te hinonga whānui rautaki āheitanga Māori me ngā mahere whai pānga, ka takea mai i Te Ao Māori, ka hoahoatia hoki kia manawa ū ki ngā kaimahi.
Tohutohu te Tumu Whakarae rātou ko te ohu ārahi matua, ko ngā kaiārahi matua hoki, mō ngā kawenga, te koke whakamua, ngā tūraru hoki, ngā arawātea hoki o te āheitanga Māori.
Whakaū āheitanga Māori ki roto i ngā tāngata mātāmua, me ngā anga whakawhanake ārahitanga, ngā kaupapahere hoki me ngā tikanga whakahaere o te hinonga.
Tohutohu ahunga rautaki, whakaarotau hoki, me ngā mātāpono hoahoa mō ngā kaupapa āheitanga Māori hei waihanga i te whakapakeketanga me te whakaaweawe wā-roa ki te hinonga.

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role
As Māori Capability Lead, you will shape and guide the organisation’s Māori capability as a critical enabler of leadership effectiveness, organisational culture, and workforce performance.

You will provide senior strategic advice and stewardship to ensure Māori capability is embedded across our people and organisational practices, supporting The Treasury | Te Tai Ōhanga to meet its strategic priorities and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
In this role you will:

Lead and steward the organisation-wide Māori capability strategy and related plans, grounded in Te Ao Māori and designed for meaningful staff engagement.
Advise the Chief Executive, ELT and senior leaders on Māori capability obligations, progress, risks and opportunities.
Embed Māori capability into core people, leadership and organisational development frameworks, policies and practices.
Advise on strategic direction, priorities and design principles for Māori capability initiatives to build long-term organisational maturity and impact.
Assure the effectiveness, cultural integrity, and impact of Māori capability approaches through clear outcomes, evaluation, and continuous improvement using a Te Ao Māori lens.
Build leadership ownership, confidence and accountability for Māori capability across the organisation.

Ō pūmanawa | About You
You’ll bring:

Fluency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, with extensive experience applying tikanga and mātauranga Māori in complex organisational and leadership contexts.
Demonstrated experience leading and influencing complex initiatives that deliver sustained organisational or system-level capability change.
Proven ability to engage with confidence, credibility, and cultural intelligence within te ao Māori and across diverse cultural frameworks, including navigating complexity, ambiguity, and differing worldviews.
Strong relationship stewardship skills and the ability to provide trusted advice at senior leadership level.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, persuasive, and trusted advice at senior leadership level.
Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Te Ao Māori, te reo Māori, Human Resources) or equivalent depth of professional experience.
