Responsibilities
Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes, and DRG classifications.
Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures in compliance with federal regulations and payer requirements.
Prepare and submit clean claims for reimbursement through electronic billing systems.
Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices.
Maintain detailed and organized medical records in EMR/EHR systems for audit readiness.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding discrepancies.
Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations.
Assist in audits by providing detailed documentation of coded services.
Skills
Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, and DRG classifications.
Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Experience with medical billing processes and medical collection procedures.
Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems.
Knowledge of medical office workflows and documentation standards.
Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
Ability to interpret complex medical records accurately.
Effective communication skills for collaboration with healthcare providers and insurance companies.
