Job Description
The Associate General Counsel for Medical Malpractice position reports directly to the General Counsel and works closely with the School of Medicine leadership to provide comprehensive legal advice on a variety of clinical enterprise matters.
Main Responsibilities:
Review all medical malpractice complaints and either handle them in-house or select and manage external counsel.
Advise School of Medicine leadership and clinical providers on provider licenses, medical staff issues, patient safety, consent forms, and clinical practices.
Provide medico-legal advice, risk management assistance, and quality improvement support to University leadership.
Monitor adverse events to identify potential liability exposure and advise healthcare providers and the Medical Director.
Assist healthcare providers with day-to-day legal issues such as informed consent, patient termination, physician departures, and claim reporting.
Manage the Patients Compensation Fund qualification and enrollment process.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
A J.D. degree from an accredited American Law School.
A minimum of 7 years of experience in healthcare law.
A current license to practice law in Louisiana.
No instances of suspension, revocation, censure, or other adverse events in any jurisdiction.
