The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

JOB SUMMARY

This job is located in the Accounting Division of the Finance Department within the City of Oklahoma City. This is an entry-level position requiring the application of accounting principles to a computerized municipal accounting system. Essential job functions include: maintaining accurate records of municipal accounts; monitoring expenditures/revenues; preparing periodic financial statements and administrative reports; and obtaining and providing information. The employee communicates with other City employees, outside agencies and citizens to explain government regulations, problem areas in funds, and to verify status of specific funds, etc. The employee may be required to provide technical assistance or training to clerical personnel, Account Clerks or Accounting Technicians through verbal explanation and physical demonstration of work performed. Assignments are performed independently following general and specific instructions. Work is subject to review by the immediate supervisor for overall standards of performance and is subject to periodic audits.

Knowledge of computerized accounting applications.
Knowledge of accounting concepts, techniques and principles.
Knowledge of and ability to supervise clerical personnel.
Skill in compiling, organizing and working accurately with financial data.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Ability to apply knowledge of accounting concepts, techniques, and principles to work performed.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for accuracy of work product.
VETERANS PREFERENCE

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily indoors and subject to sitting, standing, walking, or using a telephone for extended periods of time.
Subject to continuous exposure to light and glare from a computer monitor.
Subject to frequent low-level noise of a keyboard, ten-key, copy machine, telephone and other office equipment.
Note : Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Finger dexterity enough to operate a calculator and/or keyboard.
Near vision enough to read hand-written and/or machine-generated communications.
Speech and hearing enough to communicate clearly and distinctly in person and by telephone.

Pay Method: City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.
