Position Overview
Total Building Engineering Solutions is seeking an experienced Occupational Health and Safety Adviser for a full-time, permanent role. The position involves developing and monitoring WHS systems (including SWMS, safety plans and procedures) across engineering, remediation and construction works. The successful candidate will conduct site inspections and audits, ensure compliance with Australian WHS legislation and construction safety standards, and train staff and contractors in safe work practices and PPE. A strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation, construction safety standards and safety management systems is essential, along with the ability to prepare high-quality safety documentation and ensure compliance throughout all project stages.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement and monitor WHS management systems, including SWMS, safety plans and safe work procedures for TBES’s engineering and remediation activities.
Preparing and implementing plans and strategies for the safe, economic and suitable disposal of waste generated from remediation and construction works, including segregation, safe handling and storage, and coordinating compliant transport and disposal via licensed contractors and approved facilities.
Inspect and audit workplaces, sites, materials, and processes to ensure compliance with WHS legislation, construction safety standards and relevant Australian regulations.
Train employees, contractors and site personnel in safe working procedures, correct PPE usage, and hazard-specific safety protocols.
Investigate and record incidents, near-misses, injuries and equipment damage, and prepare reports with corrective and preventive action recommendations.
Monitor and manage ergonomic and occupational health risks, ensuring safe manual handling, tool usage and equipment setup for both office and site personnel.
Oversee site safety during remediation, structural repair, heritage restoration and waterproofing works, ensuring hazards are controlled and safe practices maintained.
Record, investigate and report incidents, near-misses, injuries and equipment/property damage; complete root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve safety performance.
Coordinate return-to-work processes for injured workers, ensuring safe reintegration and compliance with rehabilitation requirements.
Candidate Requirements
Education: A level of skill commensurate with a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
Experience: At least one years of experience in a similar field.
Skills and Other requirements: A strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation, construction safety standards, and risk management principles is essential. Experience in conducting site inspections, hazard identification, and safety audits within engineering, construction, or remedial work environments is highly valued. The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate safety documentation. Proficiency in preparing WHS plans, SWMS and incident reports is important. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers and contractors. The ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams is also essential.
Employment Terms
Annual Salary: AUD $100,000.00 plus superannuation.
Working Hours: 38 hours per week.
