Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas

Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland's identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections, developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events, educational programmes and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum's stories. We are Auckland's home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.


Job Description
Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum is proud to have a robust Pacific dimension and is working to build on this to ensure our Pacific collections and communities are embraced, centred and celebrated. The Museum’s Pacific Advisory Group (PAG) assists the Museum in strengthening this Pacific dimension, alongside the Museum’s Pacific framework entitled Teu Le Vā, and Māori framework He Korahi Māori. Currently, the Museum is following a five-year Pacific plan (2024 - 2029) called the Matafatafa Aho (a new Dawn). The aim is to contribute to three main Pacific impacts over the five years, which are:

The Museum is a place where Pacific peoples feel Connected and Valued, and the Museum contributes to Thriving Pasifika Cultures and Peoples, as well as a Sustainably Resilient Pasifika’. Here is the link to the document:

The Pacific Advisory Group (PAG) is now open to receiving expressions of interest for four new members, one of which is a Youth (aged 18 - 25) position. The group meets bi-monthly in-person on site at Auckland Museum, and members are committed to attending at least 70% of these meetings.

Desired Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will:

be of Pacific descent and based in Auckland
have a good knowledge of and connection to Pacific communities
be actively involved with at least one Pacific community (e.g. knowledge holder, leader, liaison, orator etc.)
understand and support diverse Pacific cultures and communities
have experience with governance, or leadership, or advisory roles
understand the Museum’s Teu Le Va framework and Matafatafa Aho plan
have solid skills or expertise in a particular field of work or study
