Te Haeata/The Opportunity

As a Pae Tukutuku you are responsible for supporting our judges with the preparation of landowners applications for court hearings and decisions. A key aspect of the role is the ability to research whakapapa and to communicate with applicants, their counsel and the judiciary to prepare and present cases to the court.

You will research and analyse evidence to support applications for court and prepare draft reports to assist our judges and registrars' decisions. You will ensure technical accuracy and timeliness in your work and be responsive to judicial directions in the treatment of the cases you manage in line with the court's national standards.

You may also be responsible for responding to enquiries from our court users at the counter in our offices as well as via email, online, telephone and mail.

You will be supported to grow your understanding of our processes, relevant legislation, regulations, and acts. Your ability to build relationships will have a positive impact on the aspirations of Māori landowners for their whenua and their future generations.

The work is challenging and varied, and the environment is interesting and supportive.

The role of the Māori Land Court as a people's court is unique and if you believe you can bring value to the work of the court, we will support you through an intensive induction and training programme to help you to succeed.

To Be Successful In The Role You Will Have

A genuine interest in people and experience in providing great customer service.
Great organisation skills and a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
Strong demonstrable research skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Operational experience in a medium or large organisation with experience in using a digital workflow system to process work.
Experience working in a high-paced environment where you are required to respond to changing needs and priorities to manage large workloads.
Excellent administrative skills with good attention to detail to produce quality work.
Experience in working with other agencies, service providers and key stakeholders.
A good general knowledge of, and respect for, tikanga Māori and a commitment to further develop your knowledge of Te Reo Māori.
You will work within a well-established and vibrant team alongside technical experts and you'll have attributes of being flexible, calm and resilient.
Legal knowledge or experience working with legislation is ideal but not mandatory.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The appointing salary for this role is likely to be between $58,72+ and $75,043 based on skills and experience - The remuneration band for this role is $58,72+ to $80,7+4 per annum.

In addition, there is a Reo Māori allowance (from $1,000 up to $3,200). This is dependent on completion of an approved assessment with Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori Level Finder Examination.
