Primary objective
Under the direction of senior staff, assist with land management, nature conservation, visitor activities and facilities management to
support the delivery of targeted, high quality park management outcomes, and provide support for Aboriginal and other stakeholder
partnerships.

Context Statement
There are several positions available across the Northern Territory. An order of merit will be established from this selection process and
may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months, including at other locations within the NT.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist with implementation of approved programs under the direction of senior staff in accordance with approved objectives.
2. Assist with implementation of joint management programs, liaise with traditional owners, and maintain relationships with joint

management partners and other key stakeholders.
3. Assist with the implementation of visitor management programs to promote public safety and quality visitor experiences.
4. Respond to incidents and provide first aid in accordance with emergency response procedures.
5. Operate within a strong safety culture and implement policies and processes in keeping with NT Government protocols.
6. Drive corporate vehicles including four wheel drives and on occasion, travel long distances, in remote locations and off road.
7. Exercise delegated powers under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1+76 and other relevant legislation.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant experience in a field of technical work closely related to the duties of the vacancy; or a relevant qualification awarded by an

Australian institution, or equivalent.
2. Sound knowledge and understanding of natural and cultural resource management and the role of a ranger, incorporating experience

such as land, park or wildlife management, facilitating interpretive programs and other plans and programs.
3. Cross cultural skills and ability to work effectively in small teams, demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with
4. Aboriginal people and other joint management / co-management partners for work related outcomes, or in a similar context.
5. Good written communication skills, incorporating a variety of styles and media, with experience in a range of computer software and

programs.
6. Well-developed organisational skills and self-motivation with demonstrated ability to follow procedures and operate with a strong

safety culture.
7. Knowledge and understanding incident response procedures, including administering first aid.
8. Current NT drivers licence and First Aid Certificate, or ability to obtain in a short timeframe.
Desirable
1. Sound knowledge of vehicle, plant and equipment operation and maintenance, and relevant formal training such as chainsaw, chemical

application, 4WD recovery, coxswains etc.

Further information
The role of a ranger is diverse. Rangers may be required to transfer to other parks and/or regions, work on weekends and public holidays,
be able to drive manual vehicles, work in physically demanding conditions and assist in incident management activities, including providing
