Part Time Aboriginal Community Engagement and Culture Officer,

Clerk Grade 5/6, Fairfield Community Corrections

Location: Fairfield Community Corrections

Position Type: Temporary - Part Time 17.50 hours per week

Salary: Clerk Grade 5/6 Salary ($ +7,027 pa pro rata - $ 107,05+ pa pro rata) + Superannuation + Annual Leave Loading.

This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only.

Fairfield Community Corrections Office is a large metropolitan office and we service a large culturally diverse community. Fairfield City has 27 suburbs and is accessible by rail ,bus and motorways. The Cabrogal clan of the Darug Nation are the traditional owners of the land and have cared for country here for many years. The Deerubbin and Gandagara Local Aboriginal Land Councils provide services to Aboriginal people in the area. Overall Fairfield City is a dynamic, multicultural community and the population continues to grow.

You role will work in and support a large multidisciplinary team, build cultural connections, drive cultural competence, confidence & sensitivity, be innovative in how we work with our clients and have a client centred approach. You will ensure clients have access to interventions that have a strong cultural framework that is responsive to the specific needs of the Aboriginal clients and their families. You will also support our priority targets for Closing the Gap commitments.

What You’ll Do

As an Aboriginal Community Engagement and Culture Officer you will provide advice and support to Community Corrections in the case management of identified offender groups in a culturally sensitive manner and ensure appropriate case plans and supervision is implemented consistent with CSNSW mission of reduction of re-offending.

You will also identify and build collaborative community networks and partnerships to improve the effectiveness of community offender programs for identified offender groups.

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons. Corrective Services NSW considers that being an Australian Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this role in accordance with Sections 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1+77
