Position Title: Part-Time Online Course Designer

Reports to: Director of Online Studies

Location: On campus (preferred) or remote

Grade: Exempt X Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The online course designer will work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create courses for newly launched online programs. They will work with SMEs and independently to revise existing online courses, with additional feedback from ongoing course reviews, student and instructor feedback, and changing standards of various accreditors (HLC, DESE, MPEA, Missouri State Board of Nursing, etc.).

The position is part-time and does not offer benefits. Employee must possess a vibrant, personal Christian faith including a clear testimony of Christian conversion and be actively involved in an evangelical, preferably Southern Baptist, church.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Guide SMEs in developing new online courses.
Perform regular evaluations of existing online courses.
Troubleshoot issues with live courses (as needed).
Coordinate with a variety of parties to update online classes.
Stay current on online pedagogy.
Research and adhere to accreditation standards.
DEPARTMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS

The position of Online Course Designer requires a working relationship with all academic departments on campus as many residential faculty teach and revise online courses, and online coursework is aligned with residential classes.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

Required

Undergraduate degree
Preferred

Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related degree
Experience creating/evaluating/redeveloping online courses
Experience teaching online courses
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required

Attention to detail
Adhering to online course format, accurate assignment/rubric weighting, linking assignments and course importation, etc.
Tracking evaluation and revision of courses
Engage in repetitive tasks without declining performance
Reviewing 170+ online courses using a 15-category rubric and then making similar or identical changes in each course
Creative thinking
Creating course objectives in keeping with specific standards (Bloom’s Taxonomy/SMART goals)
Ability to create assignments and assessments sensitive to the course level and department
Problem solving
Work with instructors to resolve Canvas and courseware problems that arise
Preferred

Knowledge of basic online pedagogy (best practices and HLC standards): creating course/module objectives, assessments, assignments, discussions, rubrics, textbook selection, etc.
Knowledge of various online standards: QM rubric, equitability, accommodation/universal design of learning (UDL), etc.
Knowledge of creating AI resistant assignments/projects
