The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.


The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) is accountable and responsible to the GoA, to Albertans, to their communities, and to industry for the protection of people, their property, and the environment from the effects of emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized “system” for managing the various types of emergency events that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the co-ordination, collaboration and co-operation between all entities involved in prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities within this diverse system.


Our agency also works to ensure vital public services, such as government services and first responders, are available during a crisis.

Role Responsibilities
Join the team that stands at the centre of Alberta’s public safety system. As a PECC Readiness and Response Officer with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, you’ll help ensure the province is ready to respond when it matters most. In this role, you’ll support the coordination of emergency operations, strengthen readiness across a diverse network of partners, and help keep decisionmakers informed during fast‑moving events. Key Responsibilities include:


Training Coordination - Design and facilitate engaging training programs and tools for PECC staff and augmentees, ensuring comprehensive understanding of emergency management protocols and PECC operations.
Resource and Capability Management - In collaboration with Readiness and Response Team Lead work with applicable AEMA Staff, Section Chiefs, Consequence Management Officers and Business Continuity Officers (CMO's/BCO's), etc. to assess and identify training needs and resource requirements for staff, augmentees, and applicable stakeholders.
Coordination of Emergency Preparedness Activities - Lead and coordinate readiness exercises and simulations, ensuring effective participation from relevant stakeholders while evaluating outcomes and areas for improvement.
Strategic Communication and Reporting - Prepare detailed reports and briefings for senior officials on PECC readiness and training updates, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
Operational Support and Problem Solving - Identify operational inefficiencies related to PECC processes and recommend solutions to improve work-flows and resource utilization.

Qualifications
Required: University degree in Social Sciences, Emergency Management or related, no experience required, or equivalent as described


Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education


For Example:


Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 3 years of experience
Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 2 years of experience
Related minimum 4 years of experience

The successful candidate MUST also have:


Demonstrated experience in training, training process and materials development, training implementation, facilitation, and program management.
Demonstrated experience in physical asset management, restacking of physical space, software updates to applicable IT assets, facilitation of evergreening processes of applicable IT hardware assets, asset tracking, and development of floor plan maps.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
Demonstrated ability to be a team player, while also being able to work independently with minimum supervision (as applicable).
Proficient organizational skills focused on managing multiple, at times competing, priorities effectively.

Assets:


Previous Emergency Management experience, with an understanding of emergency management frameworks and best practices
