The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is seeking a highly capable and motivated professional to join our People, Property and Security team in a key role as People and Property Officer. This position has a strong focus on supporting core People functions, particularly recruitment, learning and development, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The successful candidate will be a proactive, hands on team player who contributes to delivering high quality people services across our Canberra and Melbourne offices. While the primary emphasis is on People capability work, the role also provides support to property, workplace safety and security operations to ensure smooth day to day functioning.

Working collaboratively across the team, this role helps drive key priorities related to staff attraction and onboarding, capability building, inclusion, and ensuring our workplaces remain safe, functional and welcoming for all.

Job specific duties
This position offers the unique opportunity to support the Human Resources (HR), Property and Security teams, ensuring seamless operations that enhance workplace efficiency, employee experience, and overall business success.

Your responsibilities include:
Coordinating recruitment and selection processes, including advertising, candidate management, onboarding, and supporting hiring managers throughout each stage.
Coordinating and enhancing onboarding and induction experiences to ensure new starters feel welcomed, informed, and set up for success.
Supporting the ongoing development of employees by coordinating learning and development programs.
Coordinating diversity and inclusion initiatives, contributing to a workplace culture that values equity, access, and belonging.
Ensuring operational compliance by remaining up to date with relevant legislation, policies, and standards, and supporting best practice HR operations.
Providing timely and accurate advice on people policies, procedures, and routine HR matters, contributing to strong and consistent people practices across the organisation.
Championing positive employee relations by responding to staff queries, escalating concerns appropriately, and helping foster an inclusive, respectful workplace culture.
Providing support with property, WHS, and security matters as required to ensure smooth daily operations across NHMRC workplaces.

This is an office-based position and requires the successful candidate to attend the office at least three days a week, with an occasional requirement for hands-on work to support workplace inspections or urgent property and people-related tasks.
