Department: PHE, Junior School

Reports To: Principal, Junior School

Starting Date: August 27, 2025

Application Closing Date: April 18, 2025

Salary: $72,+6+ to $118,+16

The annual salary range will be updated with the 2025/26 salary grid.

St. George’s School has an opportunity for an experienced and energized PE teacher to join the Junior School. We are seeking a teaching professional who understands the learning needs of boys and embraces 21st century learning in the classroom. This role requires someone who demonstrates high EQ, which encompasses self-awareness, self-management, social agility, empathy, impact and influence. This individual embodies the following core values: empathy, integrity, humility, respect, responsibility, and resilience.

Faculty are required to support the school’s co-curricular program for two of three terms. The co-curricular program includes recreational athletics and competitive athletics and is offered a minimum of two times per week per term. The successful candidate is expected to lead an athletic co-curricular program and may be required to travel out of town with a school team.

Responsibilities will include:

Serves as a PHE Teacher for all Elementary grades; working in unison with homeroom teachers to collaboratively plan, instruct and remediate.
Implements and uses a variety of innovative teaching techniques that align with 21st century learning at all grade levels at the Elementary level.
Delivers an innovative curriculum as part of best practices in a knowledge-building classroom.
Provides program delivery based upon the specific learning needs of boys.
Circulates relevant articles, write-ups and PHE related information to faculty, the administration and the various members of the PHE team.
Promotes an understanding and appreciation of diverse populations and cultures.
Supports, encourages and promotes overall involvement in school’s co-curricular programs (games & clubs).
Contributes to the Junior School as a whole in terms of improving and maintaining the highest standards in teaching and learning.
Building a strong rapport with students and supporting students in achieving their best, both in and outside of the classroom.
Working with and responding to questions or concerns from parents.

Qualifications will include:

Meet the certification requirements to teach in British Columbia (B.A. and B.Ed.).
Minimum two years’ teaching experience, with a minimum one-year experience teaching Physical and Health Education at the Junior School level.
Excellent knowledge and expertise in Physical and Health Education.
Current in a range of teaching methodologies and an understanding of how to effectively implement 21st century learning practices within the PHE environment.
Experience in coaching competitive teams in a school or a community environment.
Superior ability to build rapport, trust and relationships with students.
Sophisticated interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with and manage a broad range of constituents.
Strong classroom management abilities.
Connects easily with others, balances firmness and fairness in problem resolution, and demonstrates an active interest in students and parents’ application process and interest in the school.
Innovative, flexible and collaborative working style.
Dynamic, energetic and passionate individual who wishes to work in a highly focused environment with students who are keen to succeed.
