About the role

Are you passionate about sustainability and resource recovery? Do you have a knack for policy development and project management? We’re seeking a dedicated professional to join our Resource Recovery team and drive excellence in waste management and policy implementation.



As the Policy and Project Officer – Waste Management with Yarra Ranges Council, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing our waste management strategies and policies. This 2-year fixed-term position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with our team to ensure that our practices align with the State Government’s Circular Economy – Recycle Victoria Policy Acts and Guidelines, as well as our Council’s Community Waste Resource Recovery Plan.



Your responsibilities will include:

Review and renewal of the Resource Recovery and Waste Services Policy and the Tip Pass Policy,
Investigation and development of a waste service standard for community organisations,
Lead a service review of the street and park litter bins and hard waste collections,
Assist with a review of the street and park litter bins utilisation,
Contribute to the implementation and reporting of actions in the Community Waste and Resource Recovery Plan,
Develop a litter bin asset design and style guide for implementation across Council, and
Develop waste services user guidelines for planning applications and local laws enforcement.

Demonstrated experience in shaping waste policies and managing complex waste projects.
Strong research, analytical, and project management skills.
Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills to organise and deliver information effectively.
Experience in customer-centric service delivery
A proactive approach to learning and adapting to new work situations.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to create innovative solutions.

Salary from $+3,007 (Band 6) per annum, plus 11% superannuation.
