Main Purpose & Function
This is routine recreational and introductory recreation programming assisting a Recreation Programmer II in overseeing programming at various City Facilities. The work involves developing, implementing, coordinating and participating in programming, coordination and implementation of special events, monitoring activity areas to ensure the program or activities are running smoothly, planning, and performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties related to the work. The work of this class is differentiated from that of the Program Assistant II by additional responsibility for coordinating the delivery of programs and special events but is overseen by a Recreation Programmer II. An incumbent exercises some independence of judgement and action in carrying out assignments and in dealing with minor problems, but unusual or more complex problems or issues are referred to the Recreation Programmer II or Supervisor. The work is evaluated by a superior through discussions, perusal of activity reports and observation.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Prepares and maintains records related to assigned programs and activities.
Coordinates the delivery of programs and special events and participates in planning of same while working closely with the Recreation Programmer II.
Monitor programs and activity areas to ensure that the programs or activities are running smoothly.
Prepares and maintains records related to assigned programs and activities.
Enforces rules and regulations and deals consistently and tactfully with groups or individuals who fail to observe these.
Provides information regarding programs, activities and facilities to interested groups and individuals.
Assists in developing sections of the Seasonal program guide.
Assists in developing supply requests and submits maintenance and repair requests to the supervisor.
Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Completion of an approved diploma course in recreation and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and exprerience.
Standard or Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C is required.
Experience using Active Net is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Sound knowledge of the safety practices, policies, regulations and rules applicable to the work performed.
Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and development.
Understanding and knowledge of budgets is an asset.
Some knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Some knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of recreational programs and activities as related to the work performed.
Some knowledge of basic marketing and advertising.
Ability to coordinate, deliver and participate in various special events and oversee activities and programs offered in an assigned area.
Ability to maintain control and exercise discipline with tact and consistency.
Ability to maintain records and perform a variety of routine clerical tasks related to the work performed. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to deal with same with tact and diplomacy.

A Police Record Check is a requirement of this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.


Drivers License and Record Checks

A valid B.C. driver’s license is required.
The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job responsibilities.

Copy of your five-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 14 days of this posting
Copy of your five-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 14 days of this posting
If you have less than five years driving experience in BC, a request must be made for out of province/country abstract and claims history
