Description:
Directs an ongoing university program to ensure that prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with its mission and/or specified objectives. Prepares short- and long-term goals and objectives.
1. Plans, develops and administers methods, strategies and procedures for meeting program objectives; directs and oversees the daily activities of staff members.
2. Prepares and monitors the annual budget and ensures that expenditures are within budget allocation.
3. Directs and coordinates personally, or through subordinate personnel, activities concerned with carrying out the objectives of the program.
4. Directs the preparation of and reviews reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified program objectives; modifies or changes methodology as required to redirect activities and attains objectives.
5. Analyzes trends within program areas, maintaining expert awareness of program information and change needs.
6. Formulates, implements, and maintains appropriate policies and procedures concerning program administration.
7. Manages and administers grant for program, including meetings, communication coordination, scholarships and other operations.
8. May prepare or participate in the preparation of proposals to obtain grants from state and federal agencies, and private foundation sponsors.
9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Notes to Applicant:
This position will be stationed at the Texas Gulf Coast SBDC Network’s Region Office, located at 1455 West Loop South in the Houston Galleria area.
The SBDC Network, an off-campus department of the University of Houston, provides business advising, procurement advising, and training assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout the Texas Gulf Coast region.
This position will be responsible for leading the Network’s training team, which provides training support throughout the network and ensuring administrative program compliance throughout the network.
• The ideal applicant will have:
o Experience managing or supporting complex, geographically dispersed programs with significant regulatory, contractual, or funding compliance requirements at the federal and/or state level
o Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and influence cross-functional professionals who do not directly report to the position
o Experience building positive relationships in complex operational environments involving multiple locations, external funding requirements, and compliance-driven program administration
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking, professional networking, collaborative teamwork, and the ability to develop and lead engaging training initiatives and small- and large-scale events
o Knowledge of instructional design principles for adult learners, including experience with presentation assessment and sourcing instructors for training classes at the regional office.
o The ability to respond quickly in a fast-paced environment
o The proven ability to provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers
o Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects, including experience working within a CRM software such as Center IC, PeopleSoft, Banner, etc.
o Ability to conduct periodic travel within the Greater Houston area and occasional regional travel in support of program operations. Out-of-town travel may be required.
The SBDC Network is funded through cooperative agreements with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP), and the State of Texas. The continuation of all SBDC positions is contingent on the continuation of funding from the SBA, OSBP, and the State of Texas at current levels.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
