Job Summary:

B&A is looking for a Project Accountant to join our headquarters team in support of an important mission. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a great team while supporting federal contracts around the country. We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Project Accountant to join our team. The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing financial aspects of projects, ensuring accurate and timely accounting and reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. The Project Accountant will sit in the Huntsville, Alabama office.

Responsibilities:

Set up project accounts in the accounting system to track financial transactions accurately.
Keep detailed records of project-related documents, including contracts, change orders, and other pertinent information.
Grant access to project accounts for authorized personnel, ensuring security and accuracy in financial management.
Authorize the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts as needed.
Review and approve supplier invoices related to projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contracts.
Review and approve time sheets for work related to projects to ensure accurate labor cost allocation.
Review and approve overhead charges applied to projects, ensuring correct allocation of costs.
Regularly review account totals related to project assets and expenses to maintain financial accuracy.
Investigate project variances and submit detailed variance reports to management, identifying and explaining discrepancies.
Collaborate with receivables staff to address unpaid contract billings and ensure timely collection.
Report on project profitability to management, highlighting financial performance and trends.
Identify and report any opportunities for additional billings to management, maximizing project revenue.
Provide management with reports regarding the remaining funding available for projects, ensuring informed decision-making.
Create or approve all project-related billings to customers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Investigate all project expenses not billed to customers, ensuring all costs are accounted for and billed appropriately.
Respond promptly to customer requests for more detail, providing clear and accurate financial information.
Approve the write-off of any project-related billings that cannot be billed to or collected from customers, ensuring proper documentation.
Close out project accounts upon completion, ensuring all financial transactions are finalized and documented.
Prepare and submit government reports and tax returns related to projects, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Compile necessary information for internal and external auditors, providing accurate and comprehensive financial data as required.
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
1-3 years of relevant work experience.
Required Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Project Accountant or in a similar role.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desired Skills:

CPA or CMA certification.
Experience with project accounting in the construction or engineering industry.
Familiarity with ERP systems.
Familiarity with Inventory.
Advanced Excel skills.
Experience in preparing government reports and tax returns related to projects
