The Opportunity
Our construction and infrastructure team are thriving and in need of an experienced front-end Senior Associate based in Sydney to support the development of major infrastructure and energy projects for domestic and international clients.
The construction of major infrastructure and energy is part of our DNA. We have created a full service offering unique in the Australian market, with capability to support clients throughout their entire project lifecycle. Working with some of the biggest names in both sectors, our team of leading lawyers provide transactional, advisory and contentious services on complex local, international and multi-jurisdictional projects.
As a core member of the Projects team, this role will work closely with Partners and lawyer colleagues on high profile front-end energy and infrastructure projects primarily with major contractors and developers. We are looking for front-end senior lawyers with experience in any (or multiple) of these areas. Strong experience in advising and running PPP projects is ideal, although we will consider candidates with experience advising on front-end design and construct and EPC's.
Key Areas of Focus
Support the delivery of projects ensuring that work is allocated and delegated appropriately to meet client needs and achieve the optimum level of leverage within the team, keeping Partners updated on progress and general performance of matters
Review project outcomes with the team to discuss lessons learnt and future improvements, ensuring that key learning points are documented and circulated
Work closely with local and international clients to identify their needs and provide front-end project services accordingly, supporting lines of enquiry, client meetings and difficult client discussions
Foster relationships with clients including garnering knowledge of the client’s businesses, economic drivers, market, and sector in order to provide relevant and commercial advice
Manage matters to ensure fee budgets are not exceeded or that clients are managed if fees are exceeded, keeping Partners and clients updated as required
Work as part of a team, playing an active role in coaching, training and developing junior lawyers, encouraging people to achieve the highest technical and professional standards
Engage in the development of profitable new areas of work and business development activities to identify new client opportunities, contributing strategically to proposal and tender efforts
Contribute to the firm values and culture through participation in CSR, pro-bono and social activities
Candidate Summary
An Australian qualified lawyer with at least four years post-qualification experience in private practice
Demonstrated experience in front-end construction and infrastructure law
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to assimilate information quickly and handle multiple priorities within tight timeframes
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to liaise with clients and diverse stakeholder audiences
Commercial awareness and enthusiasm for business development
