Job description
Our client, a real estate asset manager requires a Property Accountant to join their team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant will be a key member of the finance team and will be responsible for managing the month end close for various companies, which includes preparing journal entries, management fee calculations, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, income statement analysis, assisting with the year-end audit working papers and year-end partnership/corporate tax return review, and assisting with the preparation of consolidated financial reporting.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain General Ledger, including: posting journal entries, analyzing the GL and making adjustments as required
• Completion of monthly bank reconciliations
• Completion of HST reconciliations and returns
• Preparation of the monthly management fees and other chargeback spreadsheet and invoices between the management company and properties
• Approval of accounts payable invoices for all utilities, and other invoices input by the finance administrator; input accounts payable invoices on an ad hoc basis; assist in opening new utility accounts and telecommunication accounts
• Assisting with supplier statement reconciliations, as required. Assisting with the vendor payments.
• Posting of all journal entries for ancillary income (laundry, submetering revenue)
• As required, review work of the residential administrator, which would include review of LTB filings/forms
• Assist with yearly budget setup and input into the accounting software
• Detailed preparation of consolidated account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts, including assisting with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting as required for ownership
• Analyze and interpret balance sheets and income statements, and provide financial/management reports as requested
• Prepare full set of audit lead sheets and working papers for monthly reporting to assist auditors complete quarterly/year-end reviews/audits and tax return preparation
• Review of the actual to budgets for various items in the income statement and provide details as to the reasons for variances
• Preparation of monthly reporting for our third-party property management clients
• Other tasks assigned by the Director of Finance, as required
Qualifications:
• College or University degree in accounting or finance
• 1-3 years’ work experience, preferably in Property Management field
• Buildium an asset
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Microsoft Word and Outlook
• Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills.
• Detail oriented, self-motivated and resourceful, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proactive and self-directed with demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Able to prioritize, multi-task and able to work in a changing environment
• Able to deal with confidential information and demonstrate reliability and dependability
