Job Title: Public Relations Manager

Job Summary:
The Public Relations Manager cares for Sealaska’s media strategy and public narrative, alongside Sealaska’s Shareholder Communications Director and Sealaska’s Communications Team building trusted media relationships, shaping values-aligned messaging and supporting leadership during both proactive storytelling and sensitive issues. Day-to-day communications support will be shared across the Shareholder Communications team, with clear priorities established by the Director of Shareholder Communications and the President. This role compliments Sealaska’s broader shareholder communications function by strengthening earned media and public narrative while contributing to the day-to-day communications efforts as part of a collaborative team.
Media & Strategy
Co-develop and manage Sealaska's overall earned and owned media relations strategy.
Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with shareholders.
Identify proactive media opportunities that reflect Sealaska’s business strength, shareholder impact and long-term vision.
Serve as the primary media contact — press inquiries, interviews, story development
Pitch stories that highlight Sealaska's business leadership. Cultural responsibility, shareholder impact and long-term vision.
Public Narrative & Message Development
Shape clear, accurate, and values aligned messaging for public audiences, ensuring consistency with shareholder-facing communications.
Translate complex corporate, financial and governance topics into accessible public messaging.
Develop key messages, talking points, FAQs and background materials.
Media Response & Issues Management
Serves as a primary point of contact for media inquiries.
Monitor and respond to social media posts.
Lead responsive strategy for sensitive or high visibility issues with leadership.
Draft and coordinate press statements and responses in collaboration with leadership and legal counsel, if needed.
Monitor media coverage and emerging issues related to Sealaska.
Leaderships & Spokesperson Support
Prepare executives and Board members for media engagements, including interview preparation and message framing.
Coordinate and support designated spokespeople.
Provide media insights and guidance to leadership.
Support the annual Board of Directors’ election process.
Lead communications and campaign planning with Board Endorsed Candidates during each election cycle.
Social Media Platforms & Management Systems
Skilled in managing organizational social channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) including content planning, scheduling, engagement, community management, and performance tracking.
Collaborate & Team Support
Work in close partnerships with the Director of Shareholder Communications to align public and shareholder messaging.
Contribute to drafting and reviewing routine communications, including announcements, updates and external and internal facing materials.
Provide communication support during periods of increased activity, emerging issues or time sensitive needs.
Provide strategic direction and review for media-related work produced by the Communications Specialist.
Collaborate with internal teams to support integrated communications efforts.
Monitor, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Track media coverage, reach, and key themes.
Provide regular updates and insights to leadership.
Continuously refine media strategy based on performance and organizational needs.

Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficient with social media management systems such as Sprout or similar tools to streamline workflows, maintain consistency, and report on key metrics.
Demonstrated proficiency in development of communications strategies and solutions.
Familiarity with multiple content-management, editing and project-tracking tools.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications in a PC and Mac environment.
Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining social media sites, such as Facebook. LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Excellent writing skills: experience writing engaging, original, accurate articles or promotional materials for publication, for both professional and general audiences.
Experience writing and successfully pitching press releases, and communicating and developing relationships with the news media, including - but not limited to – newspapers, TV, radio and blogs.
Excellent editing skills: Demonstrated experience improving articles or promotional materials for publication for both professional and general audiences.
Familiarity with project management and workflow tools such as Monday.com (or similar) to organize tasks, manage timelines, and support cross functional collaboration.
Ability to independently publish, update, and optimize web content using CMS platforms such as WordPress or equivalent systems.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in communications or related degree. In lieu of degree, a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
3-5 year years of related experience must be in a managerial position.
Experience using media intelligence and distribution platforms (e.g., Cision, Meltwater, Muck Rack, or comparable tools) for media list management, press release distribution, coverage tracking, and sentiment monitoring.
Proficiency with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp or similar) for building campaigns, managing segmented audiences, conducting A/B testing, and analyzing performance analytics.
Advanced experience with Canva for producing professional digital and print assets.
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign preferred) for brand aligned creative development.
