The Electoral Commission is looking for a highly organised and people-focused Recruitment & Rostering Manager to join an Electorate leadership team and support the delivery of voting services for the 2026 General Election.

Supporting the Northland Electorate this role is based in Whangarei.

In this role, you will lead the recruitment, training coordination, and rostering of the temporary workforce that supports voting services in your electorate. You’ll ensure the right people are recruited, trained, scheduled, and paid so voting services can run smoothly for communities across Aotearoa.

Working closely with the Electorate Manager, Regional Training Manager and regional teams, you’ll help build a workforce that reflects the community it serves while ensuring all recruitment and rostering activities meet Electoral Commission standards and policies.

This is a 5-month fixed term role, the salary for this role ranges between $88,880 - $93,810 per annum pro rata depending on your experience delivering New Zealand General Elections and complexity of the Electorate you will work in.

He aha tāu e mahi ana | What you’ll be doing

Develop and implement a recruitment and rostering plan, identify workforce needs, and recruit a high-quality temporary workforce for electorate headquarters and voting places (approximately 300–400 roles).
Schedule and support training programmes, work closely with Trainers and Regional Training Managers, and ensure employees are prepared to deliver voting services in line with national standards.
Assign successful applicants to roles, communicate training and shift schedules, maintain accurate payroll and HR records, and regularly update the Electorate Manager on recruitment progress.
Work with community networks and internal partners to identify potential employees, collaborate with neighbouring electorates, and contribute to a supportive and high-performing regional team.
Work closely with other electorates, maintain strong communication with Electorate Manager and manage risks proactively.
Uphold Electoral Commission policies, maintain political neutrality, health and safety practices, issues appropriately, and contribute to a collaborative, positive team culture.

Experience in recruitment, workforce coordination, rostering, or large-scale hiring campaigns.
Strong organisation and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, systems, and processes.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, including engaging with local communities and stakeholders.
Confidence using recruitment systems, workforce tools, and data to track progress and manage employee information.
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a regional leadership team.
A commitment to integrity, political neutrality, and public service.
A full New Zealand Driver’s Licence
