Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities As a Regulatory Lawyer in our small and highly collaborative Legal team, you will work to provide pragmatic legal advice across the regulatory work of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and present hearings and appeals before the disciplinary and appeal tribunals. You will draw on your previous and proven experience of and commitment to advocacy to help RICS uphold its commitment to regulating the profession.

You Will
• Provide legal advice and support to the Investigation and Professional Assurance teams on all types of complaint and regulatory casework
• Prepare, progress and present cases to the Disciplinary, Registration and Appeal Panels; consistent delivery of effective, proportionate, risk-based disciplinary proceedings and quality outcomes in a timely manner
• Assist in the preparation and presentation of training to the wider Regulation team
• Provide advice, assistance and support to senior stakeholders and colleagues across the RICS
• Manage own volume of casework, consistently deliver preparation of allocated cases to high quality and within timescales in accordance with BAU metrics

About You To be successful in this role you will:
• Be a practising Barrister or Solicitor with experience of advocacy before courts, tribunals or similar bodies
• Have demonstrable experience of tribunal and/or court advocacy
• Be able to draw upon sound technical knowledge of civil/criminal proceedings
• Be able to demonstrate sound judgment reaching clear, unbiased, proportionate and reasoned decisions on progressing casework.
• Whilst not essential, experience of disciplinary functions and processes in other professional regulators would be beneficial
