Job Description
Well established and growing company is looking for a Reptile Specialist for its facility in East Dundee, IL.
If you’re passionate about reptiles, we have a great opportunity for you! Must be familiar with the different types of reptiles and understanding of the basic needs of reptiles. The Reptile Specialist is responsible ensuring the health and safety of the reptiles.
We are looking for someone to be able to work days and have weekend flexibility. Hours would be 8:00am – 4:00pm Sunday-Thursday.
OFF Friday & Saturday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In accordance with Apet’s Pledge of Care, responds to the needs of all reptiles providing the proper and appropriate care.
Visually inspects, identifies reptiles and places in holding cages with food and water.
Provides daily visual inspection of the reptiles for quality issues.
Cleans holding cages to ensure a safe environment for the reptiles.
Communicates effectively with supervisor regarding any issues regarding the reptiles.
Maintains a safe working environment, keeping all aisle ways and work areas clean and clear.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Maintains safe and compassionate animal/reptile handling practices, at all times, while performing job duties.
Ability to multi-task and operate with a sense of teamwork.
Prior experience in the care of reptiles and knowledge of reptiles.
Prior pet store experience is a plus.
Ability to work independently.
Willingness to learn about all aspects of the animal care industry, including knowledge of reptile care and on-site operations.
Physical Demands:
· Employee is frequently and regularly required to lift and carry 20-30 pounds, and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds, stoop, kneel or bend. The ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time is required.
· The ability to transport, handle and place animals in their appropriate enclosures is required.
· Employee must be able to move animals for shipping or that are received, including pushing, bending, kneeling, and twisting.
· In performing duties, employee is regularly required to use hands to grasp; and to reach with hands and arms, at or above shoulder level.
· Ability to work in a moderately noisy environment.
