Job Description
The Parliamentary Library is seeking two motivated Research Officers to deliver high-quality, client-focused research and information services to Members of Parliament, their staff and other specified clients. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the democratic process by supporting informed debate, policy development and legislative activity through rigorous research and analysis.
There are two temporary positions available.
One is 12-month fixed term temporary. The other is fixed term temporary to the 1st January 2027.
Both positions have the possibility of extension.

Key Objectives
Provide high-quality, client-focused research that meets parliamentary needs.
Support the strategic direction and service excellence of the Parliamentary Library.
Your Role
Assist the Director in delivering relevant, responsive and high-quality research services.
Apply robust research methodologies to prepare accurate, concise and timely research responses.
Adhere to research quality standards, including confidentiality, accuracy and peer review requirements.
Liaise with clients to clarify needs and deliver tailored research, including staffing the service desk.
Contribute to strategic policy development, service delivery improvements and collection development.
Analyse and optimise the use of internal and external databases to meet client requirements.
Assist in preparing customised alert services, often within tight deadlines.
Participate in multidisciplinary projects and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Represent the Library through client engagement, presentations and information literacy programs.
Maintain sound record-keeping practices and contribute to documented policies and procedures.
What We're Looking For
A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (postgraduate study desirable).
Strong research and analytical skills using contemporary information tools and databases.
Excellent written and verbal communication with proven client liaison abilities.
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Sound project management and problem-solving skills with the capacity to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, parliamentary and executive government processes.
