Job Summary
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the security of all City of Mississauga facilities/properties while maintaining confidentiality, exercising discretion, and ensuring a high level of quality and integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide exceptional Customer Service to patrons and staff
Assist in emergency response
Respond to urgent and potentially volatile situations
Investigate suspicious vehicle/activity
Provide access to security sensitive areas to authorized individuals
Responding to all access and environmental alarms
Removing unauthorized persons from City property and issuing Provincial Offence Notices and or Trespass Cautions to violators in accordance with the Trespass to Property Act and relevant bylaws.
Exercising the powers of arrest and detention
Identifying hazardous situations which could jeopardize the publics/ staff safety
Conducting visual checks, investigating personal and property related incidents
Assisting the public and staff in resolving situations by offering advice and guidance
Performing emergency first aid services to public and staff as necessary
Attend court as Officer in Charge or as a witness
Assist team members in dealing with volatile situations, assist/participate in training needs (act as coach officer) as assigned
Communicate effectively by generating security reports/emails for all incidents in accordance with procedures
Staffing control room; entering/maintaining/collecting information
Skills and Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Law and Security, Police Sciences/Management or related discipline with a minimum three years of security related experience preferably in a municipal environment
Demonstrated experience dealing with the public in a position which requires excellence in customer service, problem-solving and conflict-resolution
Able of complete First Aid/CPR certification
Must successfully complete all required training for the position including physical demands
Experience monitoring and responding to alarms in a dispatch environment, control room, mobile and foot patrol is preferred
Ability to identify and deal with potentially volatile situations independently
Proven ability to understand, speak and write in English in order to communicate effectively with the public and to report on incidents involving safety and/or service
Additional languages considered an asset
Previous experience with CCTV systems, security access systems, security and fire alarm systems for large buildings is an asset
Must have the ability to interpret and apply the Criminal Code of Canada and Trespass to Property Act; familiarity with City of Mississauga's by-laws is considered an asset
Demonstrated knowledge of Criminal Code of Canada arrest powers
Experience with Microsoft Office is preferred
Must possess a valid, unrestricted Class "G" Driver's License or equivalent, with a Driver's Abstract that has no more than 3 demerit points
Flexible to work a variety of shifts up to 12 hours including days, afternoons, evenings and weekends, holidays, and may involve working alone
Officers are expected to perform their duties in all types of inclement weather
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 78,602.00 - $ 104,806.00
Hours of Work: 80 hours/bi-weekly & 20-44 hours/week - Permanent FT, Permanent PT
