About the role
We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced finance professional to join our Finance team as a Senior Accountant / Finance Business Partner. You will provide financial support and advice to heads of service, budget holders, elected members, and other stakeholders across our services.
As a Finance Business Partner, you will provide specialist financial advice to the Council’s services. You will ensure effective resource management, accountability, control, and compliance with statutory obligations and corporate standards. Robust financial advice, guidance and support plays an important part in enabling the Council to deliver a consistently high standard of services to local communities.
You will be involved with the preparation of budgets, attendance at Project Boards, provision of financial monitoring during the year and the preparation of financial year-end accounts along with completion of grant claims and bids.
Wyre Forest District Council has a strong track record of financial management and timely completion and publication of statutory Statement of Accounts.
Local government reorganisation is being driven forward by central government, this means that the council will remain sovereign until at least 1 April 2028 after which a new unitary authority will deliver services in the district. This means an exciting time with lots of opportunities to help shape the outlook for local government in the area.
About you
You must be a full member of a professional accountancy body (CIPFA or CCAB equivalent) with extensive experience in accountancy, particularly in the public sector or large organisations. You should have a proven track record of delivering reliable and accurate financial information. You will be able to evidence a significant role in the preparation of final accounts and the delivery of corporate budget processes.
Flexibility is key, as you will work in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and priorities. You should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and experience with finance systems are essential.
What We Offer:
Career Progression: Opportunities for professional development and career advancement within the Finance team. This includes the ability to move roles within the service and gain wider experience.
Hybrid Working: Flexible work options, including regular work-from-home opportunities, with the requirement to attend the office as needed. The Finance Team is based at Wyre Forest House, Finepoint Way with the option to work in Green Street, Kidderminster and a need to attend occasional meetings across the District.
New employees are required to be predominantly office-based for the first three months of their employment, to facilitate effective induction, training, and integration with the team.
Competitive Salary:
Flexible Working Pattern: 37 hours per week
Annual Leave: 26 days (plus bank holidays), increasing to 31 days after 5 years of service.
