The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

What Will You Do?
In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Aboriginal Child and Family Advocacy and Support (ACFAS) team, which is a program under the Care and Protection/Family Law Practice. The Senior Administration Officer position supports the delivery of legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients by managing administrative staff, systems, and operations. They also oversee office reception, provide secretarial support, ensure accurate data management, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Lead and support administration staff, paralegals, and volunteers across ACFAS, ensuring efficient office operations and training.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in e-folders, spreadsheets, and legal files, including data entry and archiving.
Manage meeting rooms, outreach schedules, shared calendars, and office reception duties from +:00am to 5:00pm.
Provide secretarial and work processing support to solicitors, including legal document preparation and client assistance.
Liaised with legal professionals and stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and coordination across services.
Promote cultural respect, uphold ALS policies, and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and safe work environment.

Who Are We Looking For?
A highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be able to demonstrate:
Must Identify as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander
Strong experience in a similar field and possesses leadership skills and experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs with accurate typing skills (35+ wpm), and excellent communication and phone manner.
Able to handle confidential information, work independently with minimal supervision, and contribute positively to a team.
Strong Commitment to social justice principles and the ability to act in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner.
Demonstrated understanding of and respect for the cultural and social needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Minimum 3 years experience working in a legal practice, and Prior experience in an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community-based organisation is highly regarded.
