Diversity and inclusion are core values of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is a workplace where everyone is able to contribute and participate to their full potential, and we are proud to have a team that reflects the richness and complexity of the regional NSW communities we serve.

We are seeking a passionate individual to join our Western Local Land Services team and build a career dedicated to supporting landholders across Western NSW. If you have a genuine enthusiasm for working with landholders and a strong desire to contribute to our team, we want to hear from you.

In the Senior Biosecurity officer role, you will work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic, busy team environment. You'll play a key role in delivering animal health and biosecurity services, working closely with our District Vets. Your responsibilities will include participating in important animal biosecurity surveillance activities, implementing compliance procedures and extension for landholders and key stakeholders in the region.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on regional communities while building your experience and acquiring new skills from seasoned LLS staff. You will have the chance to establish a rewarding career path and become a vital resource of information for landholders and stakeholders throughout Western NSW

Provide animal biosecurity advice, tailored to farmers to assist them in adapting to a changing climate and emerging biosecurity threats.
Support district vets in conducting disease investigations in livestock, including emergency animal diseases
Work hand in hand with farmers, specialist technical staff and other stakeholders to improve animal biosecurity practices on-farm.
Deliver animal biosecurity advice and extension activities including field days, training and workshops.
Build strong and collaborative partnerships within your team

Our ideal candidate will be willing to learn and want to develop a career in the animal biosecurity and welfare sector. You will have a passion for animal health, production and welfare and be committed to helping landholders and rural communities. You will love the opportunity to work beside a team of experts and to support and contribute to the work they do. You will have a positive and solution-focused attitude and will enjoy getting things done efficiently and on time. You should be comfortable working as part of a team and with a range of skilled operational staff across Western LLS.

To be successful in this role you will have:

Leadership qualities to contribute to the management of animal health, welfare and biosecurity programs.
An understanding of the needs and issues facing landholders, stakeholders and agriculture in general within the western region
Strong communication skills to engage with landholders and collaborate with other partners.
Good collaborative skills to work closely in support of district vets and to work alongside other teams and business units to provide integrated customer service focused on advice and extension
An understanding of legislated biosecurity obligations in NSW
A passion for agriculture in the Western Region
Knowledge and understanding of animal biosecurity

Essential requirement for the role include;

Relevant qualifications for pesticide application
Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or the ability to complete it)
Capability to hold a NSW firearms license and a Statement of Attainment for humane animal destruction, and to be appointed as an Authorised Officer under the Biosecurity Act
A current NSW Class C Driver Licence and willingness to travel
