The Technical Services & Design (TSD) teams provide an in-house consultancy service comprised of technical and design professionals responsible for specialist advice and services across the Council, aiding the delivery of the capital works programme.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
As the Senior CAD Draughtsperson, you will provide computer aided drawing and design services to enable delivery of the Council’s capital works programme. You will act as a professional advisor for issues relating to draughting and CAD processes, providing innovative development and continual advancement of CAD processes and systems.
You'll work closely with your team and the wider organisation, utilising your advanced skills in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, ArcGIS, and VectorWorks to meet the draughting requirements requested, including concept/scheming plans, consent and contract drawing packages, 3D visualisations and presentation plans for asset owners, stakeholder and community consultation and more.
You will provide solutions to all draughting requirements for your team, including managing the integration required between the different software packages used across Councils various asset units. This role will see you implementing best practice to assist TSD in building and protecting the Council’s reputation as a leader in design and construction of community infrastructure.

We're looking for someone with strong capability in CAD draughting and a willingness to learn, grow, and collaborate. You may have developed your skills through formal qualifications, on‑the‑job experience, or a combination of both. Ideally, you will bring experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, ArcGIS, or VectorWorks, along with an interest in expanding your knowledge of these platforms.
You’ll bring with you:
Proven experience in CAD draughting or digital design (industry, consulting, or public sector).
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience.
Experience preparing plans, drawings, models, or visualisations for engineering, construction, architecture, landscapes, or asset management.
Ability to build constructive relationships and work collaboratively with technical teams and project stakeholders.
Curiosity and willingness to keep developing your CAD and digital design skills.

Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $88,003 to $97,781 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
Closing Date - 20/02/2026
