Job Description
About the Role
Auckland Airport is undertaking significant terminal development while we continue to serve increasing passenger demand. We’re looking for a Senior Capacity Planner to become the subject matter expert for terminal capacity across the Terminal Integration Programme. In this role, you'll be balancing current and future infrastructure, safeguarding resilience through each construction phase, and preparing for growth over the next five year window.
The successful candidate will thrive in fast paced environment and enjoy working with a broad set of stakeholders to deliver and execute Auckland Airports future strategy and operating plan
Your key responsibilities are:
Lead construction phasing capacity modelling end-to-end—ensuring infrastructure supply matches forecast demand from mobilisation to handover across each works stage.
Design and maintain short- to medium-term planning methodologies (seasonal to near-term) across check-in, security, immigration, baggage, and kerbside.
Turn insights into action: use CAST Terminal Express to inform capacity throughput during works—e.g., sequencing airline onboarding to Auckland Airport’s check in transformation operating model and balancing kiosks/bag-drop and staffing across peaks.
Inform process improvement opportunities using advanced performance data (e.g., LiDAR, BlipTrack/BLIP) to smooth peaks, remove bottlenecks, and protect customer experience.
Partner with internal teams to de-risk new asset activation and deliver day‑one operational readiness at each cutover.
Influence strategy: provide trusted analysis and options that shape short-, medium-, and long-term capacity decisions.
Tools & data you’ll work with:
Simulation: CAST Terminal Express
Operational data: Veovo AOS/AODB, RMS, Passenger and Flights historical and future demand forecast
Sensing/performance: LiDAR, BlipTrack/BLIP, asset utilisation
Construction staging plans and timelines
What you’ll bring to the role
At Auckland Airport, we are a busy hive of activity, and a lot of what we look for is how you would align with our AKL values All In | Tātou tatou – How we feel, Know How | Kōkiri Tahi – How we think and Let’s Go | Karawhiua – How we act.
To ensure your success in this role, you will need:
5–8+ years in airport terminal planning, operations planning, industrial/transport systems, or similar (airports strongly preferred).
Hands-on expertise with passenger flow/queuing simulation (CAST Terminal/Terminal Express or equivalent).
Strong quantitative skills—scenario design, constraints/trade-offs, Level of Service and throughput analysis.
Proven ability to translate models into tactical realities and executable plans with airlines, ground handlers, border agencies, and programme delivery.
Clear, concise communication—decision papers, exec updates, presentation, influencing and cross-functional facilitation.
Degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Transport/Industrial Engineering, Data/Analytics, or related field (postgraduate an advantage).
