Are you passionate about driving innovation in the cloud? Do you want your skills to make a real impact on the future of medical research? Join the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) as a Senior Cloud Engineer and play a critical role in powering life-changing scientific discovery.
About the Role
As our Senior Cloud Engineer, you’ll lead the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of MCRI’s AWS-based cloud services. You’ll ensure our cloud infrastructure is secure, scalable, and high-performing, enabling our researchers and teams to focus on what matters most—pioneering breakthroughs in child health.
In this role, you’ll shape and implement cloud strategy, contribute to cutting-edge infrastructure solutions, and foster a DevOps culture across the Institute. You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor others and drive innovation in automation, monitoring, and CI/CD practices.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain reliable AWS cloud infrastructure in collaboration with research and IT teams.
Automate infrastructure using Terraform and manage CI/CD pipelines for seamless delivery.
Champion best practices in cloud security, monitoring, cost optimisation, and disaster recovery.
Partner with cybersecurity and DevOps teams to protect sensitive research data.
Contribute to MCRI’s broader enterprise cloud strategy and support cloud adoption initiatives.
Enable researchers with self-service tools and environments that foster experimentation and innovation.
Stay ahead of emerging technologies and bring forward ideas to enhance MCRI’s cloud capabilities.
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, especially AWS (VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, etc.).
Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), automation, and DevOps practices.
Strong grasp of cloud security, identity management, and regulated data handling.
Proficiency with tools like GitLab, Docker, Artifactory, and monitoring solutions.
Programming experience (preferably Python) and strong troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable:
AWS certifications and/or knowledge of Azure or hybrid cloud environments.
Experience in research, higher education, or health data environments.
Familiarity with frameworks like ITIL or Well-Architected Frameworks.
