Are you a Senior Accountant with a passion for Cost and Inventory? A privately held company in Danbury is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join their team. This newly created role will involve collaborating closely with the Controller to implement a new costing structure. Known for promoting from within, this company offers a collaborative and team-focused environment. The position requires onsite presence 5 days a week and offers a competitive salary range of $110-125K, with bonus potential, based on experience.
Responsibilities:
• Leverage fundamental accounting theories and concepts to enhance our cost accounting functions.
• Collect, update, and analyze all relevant costing data to develop and maintain accurate standard costs for materials and labor.
• Dive deep into planning, studying, and collecting data to determine the costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory management, labor, and finished goods.
• Take ownership of item set-up and cost updates to ensure the precision of our bill of materials.
• Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, and manufacturing methods to assess their effects on costs and margins.
• Calculate actual manufacturing costs, prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs, and investigate any variances.
• Evaluate labor absorption, correct variances, and ensure cost accuracy.
• Regularly review the integrity and reasonableness of cost accounting systems.
• Coordinate periodic physical inventory counts to ensure accuracy and accountability.
• Manage the month-end financial close process for inventory and related items, working closely with the finance team to prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Lead or assist in ad hoc projects as needed, contributing your expertise to drive business success.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance
• Minimum of 5 years of general accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with Microsoft D365 is a plus
• Strong systems background with excellent analytical skills
• Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office suite
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing competing priorities
