Applied Materials has an exciting opportunity for an experienced attorney or compliance professional to join our world class Legal and Compliance Organization as a key member of Applied Material’s IP risk management team. In this role, you will work cross-functionally, across business, legal, and security teams, in order to create practical solutions that protect our innovations while driving our business forward.
This position will have a hands-on-role in cross-functional strategic risk management and compliance programs, with responsibilities that may include: complex contractual compliance related to intellectual property, research security, internal intellectual property investigations, trade secret protection, insider threats, third-party diligence, risk mitigation in mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, and training and awareness.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Implement, manage, and design collaborative cross-functional compliance processes and risk mitigation programs designed to protect Applied Material’s innovations.
Be a key legal advisor on complex contractual requirements and compliance related to the daily protection and handling of confidential information, including in third party collaborations and government contracts.
Investigate complex intellectual property issues, in order to identify and implement creative business enabling solutions, improvements, and mitigations, that continuously drive to better protection of Applied Material’s intellectual property.
Counsel on intellectual property strategy, diligence, and data separation in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and end of engagement data deletion requirements.
Create playbooks with intellectual property and litigation risk mitigation strategy to support commercial teams negotiating contracts and non-disclosure agreements, approvals related to intellectual property risk, and conflicts of interest.
Manage internal investigations and internal audits related to the use and handing of information.
Design and deliver tailored and effective trainings on compliance and intellectual property protection.
Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and currently admitted to practice law in at least one United States jurisdiction. Alternatively, a master’s degree in project management from an accredited institution, or equivalent professional experience in contractual compliance processes and risk management
7+ years of complex contractual and/or technology focused litigation and counseling at a top-tier law firm and/or professional compliance experience in house
Passion to build out and continuously improve IP risk compliance programs, strategic initiatives, and processes
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Exposure to complex contractual and/or trade secrets investigations
Strong grasp of technology and a desire to dive into the details
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the semiconductor industry
Experience with trade secret litigation, insider risk, and/or information security
Experience with cross-functional programs, compliance programs, and/or audits
Experience conducting complex internal investigations and/or managing high stakes intellectual property litigation, including witness interviews, depositions, and/or trial
Experience with research security and government related IP protection requirements
Experience and familiarity with eDiscovery or data forensic tools and processes
Understanding of computer and digital forensics

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
