Senior Data Analyst Health Quality Intelligence
Full-Time | Permanent | Wellington/Auckland

At Te Tahu Hauora Health Quality & Safety Commission (the Commission) we work with clinicians, health providers, whanau and consumers to improve health and disability support services across Aotearoa New Zealand.

The role:
You'll provide technical advice and deliver high-level analysis, reporting and insights for key projects and workstreams. Your work will help us spot emerging issues and seize opportunities to lift the quality and safety of healthcare across Aotearoa.
Data exploration
Investigate new and emerging health-care quality issues.
Lead projects using the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) and other linked data sources.
Work with the Health Quality Intelligence team to solve data and statistical challenges.
Partner with other teams to make sure findings are interpreted correctly.
Data analysis
Drive the production of quality and safety markers, the Atlas of Healthcare, dashboards and other reports.
Design and carry out quantitative and qualitative analyses, then turn results into clear reports and visuals.
Build processes for data collection, cleaning, analysis and presentation.
Ensure data sets meet legal obligations and good-practice standards.
Develop interactive dashboards for health-quality insights.
Translate your analysis into tools and reports used across the public sector.
Lead the technical side of assigned projects under guidance from the Analytics & Insights Manager.
Peer-review colleagues' work when needed.
Mentoring & coaching
Coach and mentor Graduate Data Analysts and Data Analysts in technical skills.
Help the Analytics Team Lead and Analytics & Insights Manager build team capability.

Show a deep understanding of cultural safety and anti-racism in everything you do.
Policies, procedures & compliance
Follow all organisational policies, procedures and guidelines.
Promote initiatives for a healthy, safe workplace for staff, contractors and visitors.
Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation.
About you:
Proven analytical skills: data management, inferential statistics and risk identification.
Strong grounding in statistics, especially its use in social sciences.
Proficiency in at least one of SAS, SQL, R or Python.
Excellent data-visualisation skills.
Solid understanding of health-care quality principles and global trends.
Clear, concise writing and verbal communication for diverse audiences.
Outstanding organisational skills for planning and running complex projects.
Ability to manage competing priorities with sound judgement and discretion.
Skill in finding, assessing and summarising scientific evidence.
Strong interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills.
Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in health.
Understanding of how health inequities developed in Aotearoa and policy approaches to address them.
Comfortable with Microsoft Office and Zoom.
