At DeepL, we're on an exciting adventure to expand our operations to match our ambitious growth plans. At the heart of this journey is our Legal team, a cornerstone of DeepL's commitment to ethical practices and regulatory compliance.
Our mission is clear: to build and develop high-performing legal teams that embody DeepL's innovative spirit and drive for excellence. As a member of our Legal team, you will be at the forefront of navigating the complex legal landscape to support our growth and innovation. Working in close partnership with Marketing and other departments you will collaborate to ensure that our operations comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
Your Responsibilities
• Your primary responsibility will be advising the marketing team on all kinds of international marketing activities and strategies.
• You will provide strategic legal advice on a wide range of global events, campaigns and other marketing activities.
• In addition, you will support the team in reviewing and negotiating agreements with suppliers and business partners (in particular agreements for software licences/tools, events or services).
• Ensure compliance with UK and international laws and regulations.
• Conduct training sessions for our teams on marketing-related legal topics.
• Stay updated on changes in relevant laws and advise on potential impacts to the company.
• Work with external counsel and provide interpretation of advice to internal stakeholders.
• Provide proactive advice, fostering ownership and accountability, and aligned with company culture while managing risk.
Required Qualifications
• Admission to practise law in the UK or US.
• Solid practical experience in the relevant fields of law (in particular copyright, trademark, data privacy, contract and competition law).
• A successful candidate should have ideally at least 5+ years of experience as a legal counsel specialising in advising in-house marketing functions (ideally combined with experience in an international law firm).
• Proven experience in an international environment.
• Experience working in a global tech company is highly desirable.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills to analyse complex information and identify the key issue/action to drive resolutions.
• Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills in English as we are an English-speaking organization.
Preferred Skills
• Experience in advising on relevant areas of law at a global level (including US and/or APAC).
• Practical experience in advising purchasing departments.
