About the Role | Mō tēnei tūranga
In this rewarding and challenging role, you will be responsible for the coordination and administration tasks within the Medical Devices Assessment and Advice Pathways Project working alongside the Senior Project Manager. You’ll also assist the Senior Engagement Lead with engagement logistics for the wider Medical Devices Programme.
Specifically, you will coordinate and support project activities that establish pathways for obtaining expert advice and economic assessments to inform investment decisions on medical devices. You’ll also review communications and engagement documentation for clarity and consistency.
The Advice and Assessment Pathways Project is focused on building clear, consistent, and well‑functioning processes to enable the commissioning of expert advice and economic assessments to support investment decisions on hospital medical devices. The project was established following Cabinet’s direction in September 2025 to strengthen the national approach to evaluating and procuring medical devices, with Pharmac and Health New Zealand jointly responsible for this work. It aims to develop robust pathways, business rules, and tools that enable timely access to high‑quality expert advice, ensure assessments are fit‑for‑purpose, and create transparency and consistency across how advice is requested, managed, and used.
The role sits within our Medical Devices Programme team, which aims to drive better value, more consistent and equitable access, and better health outcomes from the medical devices used in public hospitals.
The salary range for this position is $67 - $90k. Most new starters are typically appointed up to the midpoint of the range, depending on the knowledge, skills and experience they bring to the role.

Our ideal candidate will have:
Demonstrated experience in project coordination and engagement or communications coordination in similar coordination roles. This requires someone who can hit the ground running, and is a seasoned coordinator.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and high competency in SharePoint (managing document repositories, creating pages, and workflows).
Experience supporting meeting coordination, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and accurate minute taking in complex environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
Ability to maintain accurate project registers (risks, issues, decisions, actions) and ensure documentation remains current and consistent.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality, consistent documents and engagement materials.
A quick learner who easily picks up new concepts and applies them effectively.
Ability to work at pace, manage competing priorities, and stay calm and productive in a dynamic environment.
A proactive problem solver who identifies opportunities for administrative and process improvements and implements solutions independently.
Confidence and respect when working with a wide range of stakeholders across teams and levels.
A strong team player who contributes positively to the Pharmac whānau and collaborates well with others.
Political awareness and comfort operating within the public sector; experience with machinery of government processes is beneficial but not essential.
Understanding of the health sector (including pharmaceutical and/or medical device industries) is an advantage, but not essential.
Understanding of health equity and how to
this in the design and development of business processes and everyday work activities.
Ability to create clear, visually compelling materials—such as diagrams, engagement artefacts, and simple visual representations of processes or plans.
Beneficial (but not essential) skills include experience with Power Automate, Power BI, and producing high‑quality visual representations of concepts or strategies.
The role has a level of autonomy and applicants will need to be self-driven to manage time-pressured work but also need to work as part of a team. You will be part of the Medical Devices Programme team and supported to learn and succeed in our fast paced and dynamic workplace.
