The Opportunity:

In the role of Senior Regional Officer, within the Northern Region, you will have responsibility for supporting the delivery of a range of services including governance assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations registered under the CATSI Act.

The role will include the delivery of corporate governance training, chairing and/or assisting at corporation meetings, management of complaints and disputes, and oversight of activities such as registration and reporting, and call centre operations.

As a Senior Regional Officer, you will be required to engage in activities and lead and assist other staff to ensure Indigenous corporations registered under the CATSI Act are compliant with the requirements of the Act. This applies to existing corporations and those wishing to register. The role will provide the successful applicant with a variety of work and exposure to Senior Executive officers.

Other key duties of the role include:

Managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility, and guiding and developing people.
Developing and auditing quality assurance and governance procedures, practices, and frameworks.
Assessing, evaluating, and recommending opportunities that contribute to continuous business improvements for ORIC.
Ensuring ORIC services in the region are coordinated, planned, and strategically linked to ORICs business objectives in order to maximise their impact and effectiveness.
Delivering corporate governance training in the region, in particular Corporation Specific Training (CST).

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have the ability to lead and deliver corporate governance and other specialist training to assist Indigenous corporations with targeted governance issues and be comfortable facilitating, observing and/or chairing meetings, representing ORIC in external forums and promoting the role of the Registrar and the benefits of the CATSI Act. You will also have experience in interpreting the Act to ensure corporations are complying with the legislative, policy, and regulatory frameworks.

The Senior Regional Officer will assist in the management of ORIC’s call centre operations, ensuring timely and quality responses to inquiries, using ORICs business systems and processes. You must be able to provide advice to Indigenous corporations regarding complex matters under the Act. You will need to identify opportunities to build corporation capability with skills and processes for managing future disputes and maximising positive outcomes and improved dispute management practices in the sector.

Key to your success will be your ability to work collaboratively, forming positive relationships with key stakeholders, communities and corporations to identify the needs and strategies for improving the governance, compliance and sustainability of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations in the region.

The position requires the successful candidate to hold a full driver’s license without restrictions. Having experience and/or qualifications in accounting, legal practice, business administration and/or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment would be advantageous.

In part this role is focused on supporting corporations in Central Australia. As such if the successful candidate is not based in Alice Springs, they will need to periodically travel to Alice Springs and work from the NIAA Alice Springs Office. Other travel including regional and remote travel may also be required.
