The Client Platform team is a part of our Platform org and it enables Descript's mission by empowering client side developers with reliable, performant, and easy to use tools. As we grow to achieve that mission, we're looking to add highly technical and mission-driven engineers to lead our efforts.
What You'll Do
• Build the foundation of the Descript web and desktop (Electron) apps
• Build design systems to support UX consistency across products
• Take shared ownership of the release and packaging process of the app and websites
• Help define and improve methods to test our product surfaces; this includes e2e playwright and performance testing
• Work closely with engineers from product teams across Descript, understanding their productivity and feature pain points and building solutions to resolve them
• Build & maintain standards for data fetching and client side state
• Provide mentorship, including to your more senior counterparts in your particular areas of expertise
What You Bring
• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• Experience in maintaining and improving large scale monorepos
• Experience configuring and extending modern Javascript tooling
• Experience writing design systems in React and using tools like Radix and react-aria
• Proficiency in modern technologies such as Typescript/Javascript/React/node.js
• Customer obsession - you care about providing a good user experience and ensure you fully understand user needs before diving into engineering solutions
• Good judgment in making tradeoffs to balance velocity and quality
Nice to Have:
• Electron experience
At our current size and stage, we embrace a flat organizational structure and value the expertise and contributions of every team member. As such, we have a unified job title for our engineering roles where everyone, including those with Staff-level scope, is considered a Software Engineer. While titles may not change, we are actively seeking senior and above Software Engineers to join our team.
The base salary range for this role is $170,000-$230,000/year. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, location, and may vary from the amount above.
