Due to continued growth, we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Trust Officer to join our Finance team in our Sydney CBD office.
About the Role
Reporting to the Finance team, you will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of trust account payments and ensuring compliance with trust accounting obligations. You will work closely with solicitors, legal teams and clients, playing a key role in maintaining the integrity of our trust accounting processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 1–2 years’ experience in a similar role (ideally within a law firm) who has handled end-to-end trust account functions and enjoys working in a structured, compliance-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Trust Account Processing
Process day-to-day trust accounting functions in accordance with firm policies and procedures
Liaise with legal teams to identify and resolve discrepancies and trust payment issues
Review Trust Cheque Requests to ensure completeness of required documentation
Prepare trust payments and process transactions in accounting software
Maintain data consistency between accounting systems
Follow up outstanding trust requests with teams
Perform trust bank reconciliations
Month-End Review & Reconciliations
Assist with month-end closing activities
Liaise with teams to support monthly collection targets
Prepare and reconcile the Trust Account Trial Balance
Prepare monthly reporting for trust audit documentation
Trust Compliance & Year-End
Prepare submissions for quarterly Law Society statutory deposit exemption
Compile documentation for Trust Audit
Support and complete trust audit with external trust auditor
Assist the Accountant with year-end analysis and reporting
Administrative Duties
Daily banking
Filing and inbox management
Running daily reports
Other ad hoc finance duties as required
About You
Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a Trust Officer or similar finance role
Previous law firm experience highly regarded
TAFE Diploma/Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred)
Strong understanding of accounting principles and reconciliation processes
Advanced attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (e.g. Xero)
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and collaboratively
