Senior UK Accountant

Responsibilities: Finalization of accounts for UK-based companies, including preparation of journal entries, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, annual accounts statements, notes, and financial reports in compliance with HMRC accounting standards. Reviewing and approving financial statements prepared by junior and mid-level accountants before submission to clients or statutory bodies. Reconciliation of bank accounts, revenue streams, VAT, PAYE, NIC, and other control accounts; ensuring accurate identification and reporting of amounts payable or receivable to/from HMRC. Calculation of corporation tax and preparation and filing of tax returns with HMRC and Companies House. Overseeing the preparation and submission of VAT reports (both quarterly and annually), debtor control accounts, self-assessment computations including income tax, dividend tax, and rental income. Team Leadership: Managing, mentoring, and guiding a team of accountants. Providing training and support to enhance team efficiency and knowledge. Reviewing and quality-checking the work of team members to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness before final delivery to clients. Client Handling & Coordination: Acting as the primary point of contact for client queries and escalations. Managing client relationships and ensuring client satisfaction through timely and professional communication. Handling and resolving complex accounting and tax-related queries raised by clients with in-depth technical knowledge and practical solutions. Ensuring high standards of quality control and timely submissions of statutory filings such as payroll, VAT returns, and final accounts via the HMRC online portal and MTD platform. Supporting lead generation efforts and contributing to the business development function through client interactions and value-added services. Year-end closing, bookkeeping supervision, and ensuring accurate maintenance of financial records. Demonstrating strong communication skills, including effective understanding of UK regional accents.
