The City of Abbotsford is currently seeking an experienced professional to join their dynamic team as the full-time Sports Field, Turf and Irrigation Technician in the Park & Facility Operations division.
Reporting to the Sports Field, Turf and Irrigation Coordinator, you will be responsible for the construction, maintenance and management of turf grass and sports fields and repair, replacement and maintenance of irrigation systems; utilizing techniques and practices consistent with industry standards.
Your love of the outdoors and turf grass maintenance will be ideal for this role in maintaining park areas, irrigation systems, sports fields, municipal grounds and boulevards. As the Sports Field, Turf and Irrigation Technician you will work in a wide range of turf grass related duties including routine repair, maintenance and development of park areas; assist in construction of sports fields; installing irrigation and drainage systems; applying integrated pest management practices. Your considerable knowledge of materials, methods and tools used in maintenance of turf grass, synthetic sports fields and irrigation systems along with your skill in the operation and care of all turf related tools and machinery will make you an asset to the team.
As the successful candidate you will have:
Completion of Grade 12
Completion of one year of technical training in turf grass and irrigation from a recognized post-secondary institution
Two years’ experience maintaining specialized turf grass
BC Pesticide Applicator's Certificate in Landscape and Garden category
Valid BC Driver's Licence
This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $32.43 to $38.17.
