Energy Infrastructure | Utility-Scale Development | U.S. Markets
A privately backed energy infrastructure platform is seeking a senior development leader to help build and scale a portfolio of utility-scale power projects across the United States, with a strong focus on major ISO/RTO markets including the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest.
This role will lead the development of complex utility-scale generation projects across renewable and thermal-adjacent assets, including solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and gas-related or hybrid generation solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in power project development, strong commercial capabilities, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
The role sits within the senior development leadership team and plays a key part in shaping the platform’s overall development strategy and execution approach.
Key Details:
• Location: Houston, TX (preferred) or New York, NY (flexible for strong candidates)
• Hybrid: 3 days per week in office
• Focus Markets: U.S. ISO/RTO markets with emphasis on Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest
• Asset Types: Solar, wind, BESS, gas-related generation, and hybrid energy projects
Key Responsibilities:
Development Leadership & Portfolio Execution
• Lead development of utility-scale energy projects from origination through COD
• Manage a diversified pipeline across renewable and conventional generation assets
• Identify and advance new development, repowering, and greenfield opportunities
• Oversee projects through interconnection, permitting, offtake, financing, and construction readiness
Hybrid & Thermal-Adjacent Strategy
• Support development of gas-related, hybrid, and redevelopment opportunities within existing generation infrastructure
• Evaluate asset optimization strategies across mixed technology configurations
• Assess long-term market and regulatory drivers impacting asset value
Interconnection, Permitting & Regulatory Execution
• Manage interconnection processes across major U.S. ISO/RTO markets
• Lead permitting and regulatory strategy across federal, state, and local agencies
• Engage with utilities, regulators, landowners, and other key stakeholders
• Navigate transmission constraints and development risks
Commercial Structuring & Capital Strategy
• Structure and negotiate offtake arrangements including PPAs, tolling, and hybrid contracts
• Build financial models and investment cases to support development decisions
• Partner with finance teams on project-level capital structuring
• Support competitive RFP and bid processes
Leadership & Platform Development
• Contribute to building a scalable development platform and repeatable processes
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, finance, and construction teams
• Support strategic growth of the development organization
External Engagement
• Engage with utilities, ISOs, regulators, investors, and partners
• Represent the organization in industry discussions and external forums
Qualifications:
Experience
• 10-15+ years in power generation development, infrastructure, or energy project delivery
• Proven track record delivering utility-scale projects from origination through COD
• Strong exposure to U.S. ISO/RTO markets preferred
• Experience across renewable and/or conventional generation development strongly valued
• Background in high growth or PE-backed platforms is a plus
Skills
• Strong understanding of U.S. power markets and interconnection processes
• Commercial structuring experience (PPA, tolling, merchant, hybrid structures)
• Financial modeling and investment analysis capability
• Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
• Ability to operate in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
• Strong communication and executive presence
