Job Description:
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, performance, security, and availability of the organization's database systems. This role requires expertise in database administration, design, development, and troubleshooting, as well as experience with database management systems (DBMS) and related technologies. The Senior Database Administrator will work closely with development teams, IT staff, and business users to ensure that databases are configured, optimized, and available to meet business requirements.
Responsibilities:
Administer and manage enterprise-level database systems, including installation, configuration, patching, migrations, upgrades, monitoring, backup and recovery, and performance tuning
Develop and implement database standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements
Evaluate. new database technologies, tools, and features, and provide recommendations for their implementation
Develop database schema and design, and work with developers to ensure optimal performance and scalability
Ensure database security and compliance with regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA
Collaborate with development teams to optimize queries and database code
Plan and implement database migrations and upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to the organization's operations
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, working with vendors and IT staff as needed
Monitor database performance and proactively identify and address potential issues
Provide training and mentorship to junior database administrators
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
8+ years of experience in database administration, with a focus on enterprise-level systems
Expertise in database design, development, and management, with experience in both SQL and NoSQL databases
In-depth knowledge of DBMS technologies such as Oracle (11g/12c/1+c), Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL
Knowledge of No SQL database such as Mongo DB, Cosmo DB, Cassandra, Redis
Preferred experience with cloud-based database platforms such as Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, PostGre
Knowledge and exposure on technologies like OEM, ASM, RAC, PL/SQL, Weblogic, Websphere, Proc C, Tomcat, Java Scripts, SQL Scripts, Unix, AIX, OEL, RHEL, No SQL database such as Mongo DB, Cosmo DB, Cassandra, Redis etc
Experience with database security, compliance, and disaster recovery planning
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Certification in database administration is a plus (e.g. Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator, etc.)
