Description
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing a range of accounting tasks to ensure the accurate and timely processing of financial information. This role involves handling general ledger entries, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with grant regulations. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in accounting principles and experience with grant compliance, particularly in a public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities
• General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including preparing and posting journal entries.
• Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.
• Grant Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with grant requirements and regulations. Prepare and review grant reports, track expenditures, and assist with audits.
• Accounts Payable/Receivable: Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, including invoice verification and payment processing.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist with budget preparation and financial forecasting to support organizational planning and decision-making.
• Internal Controls: Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
• Reconciliation: Perform regular bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Ad Hoc Duties: Perform other accounting-related tasks and projects as needed.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field - preferred but not required
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience. Experience with grant compliance and public sector accounting is highly preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and grant management.
Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with various stakeholders.
